The Club BBQ is on the 18 of December and each year we organise a large fantasy game.

This year I was going to put together some suggestions. Please feel free to make a creative suggestion to this post.

I was going to try a different format.

First is to put together a larger battle field, as pictured below. And use smaller army sizes. I am hoping it will give the players a feel of an open field engagement. Usually the large scale battles end up with most units fighting the opposite unit across the table from it. This will hopefully give a lot more options for positioning and moving armies.

There will be 4 objectives that are to be hold at the end of the game for victory points. There will also be victory points for killing generals.

When units are killed they reenter the battlefield in the development zone (with condition, see below). The deployment zones are set well back from the centre so it will take 2 to 3 turns for reinforcements to make it to the front line.

Army points is 1500.

Victory points
Victory points are 1 per general killed and 1 for each objective hold at end of game. There will be 4 objectives. In the centre of table (the hard to reach area for us shorter players) will have an impassable terrain feature.

Movement

Infantry and chaorits – can march up to 14 inches if no enemy unit is within 36 inches. Cavalry etc can march 20 inches. War machines can march 10 inches.

Route tests
If an army general is killed, at the end of the turn all units in the army that last their general, must make a leadership test. If failed, they are automatically routed and removed from the field. 1 victory point is also awarded for killing the general.
If 50% or more of an armies’ units are destroyed, then all remaining units must make a leader test at the end of the turn. If failed, the unit is automatically routed and removed from the field.

Reinforcements
Units can be moved onto the field at their team’s deployment zone as per rules for reinforcements. But a unit must come on with another unit. Each unit doesn’t have to be from the same army, but reinforcements always enter the field with another unit. If there are no other units to come on the table with said unit, then it most wait till another unit is removed from the field.
A general can come on the field once killed, but it must come on the field with another unit from the SAME army, other wise the general must wait until a unit becomes available.

That is what I have in mind. but welcome any suggestions or comments.

If you are interested in playing in this game, can you let me know in this post. Thanks

When I bring on more stuff can it be a whole seperate 1500 point list? It seems more 'real'

Hey,

Hopefully everyone is still on for This Sunday.

Alan's idea was good. So when you bring on a reinforcement it can be a different unit from your original starting 1500. Of course the unit will have to be about the same points or a couple of units adding to roughly the same amount. Sound ok?

Can you please just double confirm you are coming thanks. And anyone else interested.

rhys - yes
Mike - yes
Alan
Alex
Alex (French) - yes

Think you might need to do some math and rethink battlefield size? At 20 feet infantry/chariots will take 7 turns just to reach the centre (with 14" moves), and cav 5 turns (with 20" moves), and that's assuming they start 12" in! So reinforcements won't work and there will be a lot of stuff not happening for a very long time. In a big multiplayer game you won't get too many turns in.

Suggest you just make the table a standard 6 foot wide, but keep the Rout and Reinforcement special rules which will make it quite different from normal games.

20 ft might be a bit more than it will actually be. It was a rough measurement / guess. Also we can increase the development zones, or drop a table on either end.

We will have a measure up as we setup the tables and call it on the morning.
