Time for this forum to go?
Virtually no one uses it anymore. The fees of those who do use it don't even cover its operating cost. It's 15 years old and obsolete and costing money for something that should be free, and creates a headache having to duplicate information or search for info on different sites. The only remaining use is for organising and recording ancients events, which could easily be done on an existing free Facebook group (e.g. Christchurch Historical Wargaming, or the Club group).
Time to kill it I think.

No.
This would be used more if the committee used it. But after years of requests to do so they have never.
Also, after a few days, good luck finding anything on a face book page.

I have spoken with Andre and we have agreed we’d set up an NZ ADLG FaceBook group to replace use of this forum as a communication mechanism for NZ ADLG events.

Disagree Al, it's got very little to do with where the committee posts things I think. Just about everyone except you and I migrated to facebook for whatever reason, including to groups that have no committee posting in them! On facebook you can find things with search function, of if they are events you can find them using events tab. And Alan has actually been posting committee news here, there are tonnes of posts from him over the last year, glad you appreciated them! Stephen, that new Facebook group sounds good, but might it be better to have a NZ Ancients Wargaming Group - rather than tie it to a system? That means we get more overlap of ancients community rather than just ADLG (which may not be rules of choice forever either)? Just an idea.

Well the DBMM guys already have a strong FB group of their own and I doubt they would move to a generic Ancients forum - just as I have no interest in seeing a bunch of DBMM posts. I logged out of the old generic Yahoo NZ Wargaming Group years ago when it seemed to die as FB took over the World. I think rule set specific is probably best, and then people can chose which groups (rule sets) they follow.

Mark we were going to get a Club Website where all could communicate. What happened to that ? Have a look at this Auckland site http://nswc.org.nzFace book is too cumbersome, as Al said trying to find something after a day or so is a pain. Our own website could accommodate all the groups within the Club in separate sections would it not ? Are there cheaper options for a smaller Forum ? Not all like facebook or use it.

Well Mark how do you explain the 61800 hits on the Ancients over Woolston page alone ? Will have a look at your link Also what is this all about anyway ? Whose idea is it to close the Forum ? How much are the fees ? Who gets them ? Can the Forum be downloaded, there is a lot of Club history here ? What did you think of the North Shore Club's Website?

To whom it may concern,
Yes, some committee posts have being made, but I would say only about 5% have being posted of what should have been.
Outside ancients where are the announcements of upcoming tournaments, players packs etc.
Any postings about any large Napoleonic two day battles ??
Committee questions for members, or informing club members about anything. Terrain.
Remember, if you actually use it, they will come.

Brian if just a few people repeatedly check and post in a thread over multiple years, then the numbers add up, especially because updates are also regularly crawled by indexing bots (not people) adding to numbers. If I look at the membership list as admin I can see there's only a few people regularly visiting - e.g. you most often, plus Andre, Stephen (and Vince doing his DBMM posting). My idea to close the forum, for reasons I've stated. I'm sure others agree with it though. Fees if I recall are about $120-240 a year I think, for clunky tech that is hard to view on many devices, and should be free with better functionality anyway. As to content there's a lot of rambling about playing with toy soldiers, that I doubt anyone will miss much. If you care that much I suggest you start backing up pages you particularly care about here, easiest to install the browser app and just click save on each page. https://help.archive.org/hc/en-us/artic ... ck-MachineI kindly just saved the 18 pages of the Ancients at Woolston thread for you (took 2 mins), and they will now exist long after this forum and you and I are all dead The North Shore site is also old tech, you can't post anything on it so not interactive, and has lots of outdated info and links.

Al - the organiser of a multiplayer Napoleonic game, and any other game or other touranment organisers, are under no obligation to post details here, just for you and Brian, on a forum that for all practical purposes except organising ancients tournaments, died years ago.
And it's telling that the important committee business has been posted here for an entire year, and just as you couldn't find it on facebook, you didn't notice it here either.

Well enough of this twaddle, if Andre has joined Face Book then we are Doomed.
So can I book a 25mm 300pt ADLG game with you Mark as we never played at WarClouds ?
