Hey Folks,

As I was scrounging through my bits boxes looking for BFG bits I stumbled accross a palstic Epic Ork army!

It looks like most of one of the old Battleforce boxes I think. I have had had a look at the Armageddon lists and I am thinking a normal boyz heavy warband with a Deathskull Looters feel. I always liked the Deathskulls casual attitude to equipment ownership and I like painting blue!

I have based up;

3 Warbands worth of Orks (so 6 Nobz inc Warboss, 18 Boyz and 6 Grotz)
3 extra Nobz
4 Big Gunz
4 Kommandos
3 Stormboyz
1 extra Boyz + 1 extra Grot
Oddboyz Mek Shokk Attack Gun
2 Stompas
10 Battle/Gunwagonz
and I can also steal my 5 year old sons Diecast Thunderbird 2 toy to make a Landa :)

I only have a vague idea how the army should work. Does it follow the standard ork practice of opportunity shooting followed up by a bloody assualt?. How many points do most people play? According to the Armyforge Creator online I have 1590pts + the Landa...I was quite surprised by this!

I was thinking;
-a supporting shooting Warband with the Big Guns + Mek + Stompa
-a mechanised assualt Warband with the Warlord + 2 extra Nobz + Battlewagonz + Stormboyz (can they fly along?)
-an objective nabbing Warband with 1 extra Nobz + 1 extra Boyz/Grotz in the Landa

Not sure were to (or if to) stick the Kommandos. Also was thinking maybe a Blitz Brigade with a Battlefortress would be better then a whole lot of Battlewagons?

Aargh the choices are endless!

Know I have know real idea how the game plays, as I only played a a few games back when it launched (like 12 years ago?). I like the setting am really over 40k though. If I can get some dudes painted I would be keen as to play a game sometime if someone dosnt mind showing me the ropes?

I know thats a heap of questions but if anyone has the time I would surely appreciate your thoughts!

Cheers
Jason

Cool all sounds good to me, and division of units sounds good.

Normal points we play is 3-4K, though tournament rules are designed for 2-5K. Add a gargant or some of the more expensive units and you get there quickly of course...

With regards to battlewagonz, maybe consider converting a couple up to be some sort of Oddboyz upgrade, as they add significant firepower.

Also be on the lookout for cool proxies and 'bitz' for orks as they are easy to mek things up for. Goes without saying given some of the excellent work of yours I've seen before :)
Some of us probably have spare ork bits and pieces lying around you could nab too.

Here's a big tactics thread on orks that's got practically everything you could ask:

Something that caught my eye yesterday... cool example of what you can do with basic ork bits to make something a bit chunkier...
here turning some battlewagonz, a stompa and bits into a cool looking supa stompa...

Hi Mark and Tim,

Thanks for your thoughts!

I found that link to TacCommand on your handy dany link list Mark (as well as downloading your rules compilation) and have been perusing that Ork tactics thread. I also read through the "Old Grognards and n00bs army strategy" post as well.

From what I can gather you want your detachments to be roughly 300-500pts so you have enough of them to get multiple activations as well as having multipe redundancy without being baraged to death? For Orks thats Normal and Big Warbands + Supports right?

It also looks like Stormboyz a pretty handy being flying scouts. Are Kommandos also handy for ZoC work?

Cool Supa Stompa find too Mark! My bits box is pretty extensive, and I have a heap of 40k Ork bits that will crossover well but am a bit light on smaller scale bits. I am more then happy to accept spare bits you might have lying around! I was planning to get some SM/ Imperial vehicles to Loot Tim so would love those Rhinos :D

I reckon I can scratchbuild a Gargant easy enough out of my bits...

I think I will work towards getting 2k built and painted.

I am working Sundays at the moment but have a couple of weeks off soon so might roll down to Woolston one weekend if your having games? Would love to watch one to see what the new game is like.

Cheers
Jason

Crap where did my post go?? Have to rewrite.

Anyway yes normal and big warbands are typical though most things can work if you use them right and get right matchups. Army design less of the ultimate factor it can be in other games I think.

Kommandos less used than Stormboyz due to not having own formation in standard ork list and more limited role, but still can be useful. They have a greater role in some variant lists.

Lookforward to seeing scratchbuilt gargant. :) Will have a look around for other epic ork bits and pieces.

Also yes come along to club or other venue, be good to have another person along :)

Hi Mark,

Yeah the new forums seem a bit buggy still, I have been logged out a fair bit and had pages fail to display alot. A refreash works though.

We are bloody quiet at work so I downloaded your compliation to my phone and have been tinkering with lists. How does this look for the first 2000pts as a starter?

Deathskull Lootaz 2k Epic: Armageddon

"Da Thievin Gits" - Big Warband with Warboss, 2 Stormboyz, Oddboy
"Da Uver Peoples Rides" - Big Blitz Brigade
"Da Lazy Gits" - Normal Warband, 1 Stormboyz, 1 extra Boyz + Grot (Ridez in da Landa, dats why dey is lazy!)
"Mekboy Bork da Buildaz Stompaz" - Normal Stompamob with Supa Stompa
"Mekboy Gruzz's Gunz" - Big Gunzmob with Oddboy
"Da Dumbo Droppa" - Landa

Plan is the Big Warband is the "Grunt" unit that holds an objective and aims to shut down mobile armies with thier ZoC, they form the pivot of the army and hopefully wont die quickly. The Big Guns will support the Big Warband and while I would love to add a Nob to remove BM's quickly I was 35pts over so he got the chop.

The Blitz Brigade is my Fast Attack option that will aim to move towards a deep objective or be held in reserve depending. The Stompa Mob with its Supa Stompa (how cool are they!) will slowly grind towards an objective, they can also screen the Infantry. When I get the models I want to add some Kans and Dreads to this as a screen.

Finally the Landa with Warband will drop on a rear objective/ strafe

Think that will work?

Cheers
Jason

Yup sounds good overall plan and formations to me, main thing is I'd advise is adding an oddboy to the blitz brigade to give them a real threat potential, though admittedly you are only at 2K so can't have everything I suppose!

And yes supa stompaz are cool and killa kanz and dreads go well with that formation :)

Worth swapping the Oddboy from the Gunzmob to the Blitz Brigade?

I know what I am doing tonight, scrounging through the bits in the long cold dark of the back of my Man Cave (Garage) :p

Cheers

If it's a choice between gunz mob and gunwagonz then yeah I'd probably go gunwagonz, means the enemy will find it much harder to predict wheer the zzap is coming from!!

Howdy, I have a few stands worth of boys, as many battlewagons (old style) as you need, a spare plastic stomper and some other bits that you are welcome to have. Let me know what the best way of getting them to you.

Cheers Guys :D

I love building Ork Vehicles, as you might remember from my old 40k Blood Axe "Mekanized Kompanee"

The best thing about Epic Ork Vehicles is that they dont take as long to build! My 40k Baneblade sized Battlewagon took me WEEKS to build, and about 4 tubes of Superglue!

The devil is in the detail, and I have a heap of left over 40k plastic Ork bist to shave detail off.

Person has a heap of spare bits he is donating to the cause so with those, some other bits and a Scratchbuild Gargant I will be able to get to 3K realtively easy. Question though, can you still get the plastic ruins? A couple to add to a Gargant base to emphasize the scale would look pretty sweet.

Rules question though: My Supa Stompa has 2 Soopagunz. Do these combine to give it BP4 with the extra Template? Also these are MW attacks right? Seems really, really nasty!

Cheers
Jason
