i'm running at least 1 event locally this year (Conquest for sure) so thought i'd see what the world liked in terms of game size (number of pts)

i've had at least one request (dating back to last conquest) not to have escalating points, so if i chose a fixed number, what number would make you (personally) happy?

that number will determine how many games we get in over the weekend

EDIT:

Results so far (and yes, i'm counting all values mentioned, not how many people respond)

1500 = 4

1750 = 14

1850 = 3

2000 = 4

I like either 1750 or 1500.

I like 1750, 1500 you just fit in the "minimum" to make your list work, 2000 is too many toys, while 1750 fits in the middle, you get your base list plus a couple extras

I like 2k. But too big for tourneys. So 1750. I think 1500 might disadvantage some armies.

I love a good 2k game but, in a tournament setting we never seem to have enough time to play it through fully. So my vote goes for 1750.

If 2k gets enough love, i can make it work, it just mean that the 1st day will be long (finishing 6~6:30) and we'll only play 5 games

Interesting that no one has yet mentioned 1850

I like to play 1750pts, as its big enough to get most army lists in without being unfair to some codexs

keep the numbers coming, and while i have your attention:

hiding in a subforum somewhere is Nathan's event, the Ides of May. this is the 1st yr that 40k is being offered, and i figure it's worth supporting

Seriously, pick a number - some people will like it and some people will hate it! 1500 or 1750 are both fine, and as for time limits, it comes down to what armies people are playing - horde Orks or Guard @ 1500 will be far more unwieldy than 2k of Grey Knights... I am pretty happy with the whole escalation thing, as it gives me a chance to play several 'different armies' over the course of the tournament (ie my year's play time), but it's also nice to not have to be always reminding yourself which list you are playing now.

I really liked adding the 250 "tabs" to my base 1500 list to take advantage of "the scouring" or "big guns never tire" missions. Most of the time I play 1750 games. I normally feel like I want more toys at 1500, but vice versa, the turnaround time is very conductive toward tournament play and 2 hour deadlines. 2K could get a bit unwieldy for 5 or 6 games but I personally really enjoyed the climactic showdown for the final supergame at Conquest. I would be most interested in 1850 as I would be more likely to add squad leader upgrades at this point limit.

Wes, I have really enjoyed both the tournaments you ran last year and appreciate the effort you put into the package!

glad you're enjoying them Nick; that's the only goal i have, is that we all enjoy them.

and sure, you're right Mark, it doesn't really matter what i pick. i think it would be fun to play eight 1250-pt games in 2 days one of these tourneys, but i'm just genuinely curious as to who likes what better. every now and then you'll hear someone mention how their favourite pts value is never used in a tourney, so i thought i'd see where the people who attended conquest last year sat, and go from there.

so far 1750 seems to be winning hands down.
