Bolt Action Southcon 2014

Saturday & Sunday competition.

Four games – 2 each day (this is a game for gentleman!) 8)
Time: 10.00 to 12.00 and 1.00 to 3.00 so obviously 2 hour games...
750 Army point limit – time period: no later than July 1944.
Missions – pre set terrain tables with scenarios (any help with suitable terrain would be appreciated).

My preference is for Axis vs Allies, but this will be determined by entries.
If wanting to play, email me and send your list for confirmation prior to the weekend. If you are able to field multiple armies, then your flexibility will not go unrewarded!
This would not be a full on competitive tournament (a la 40K) but a more relaxed (tongue in cheek) romp by like minded individuals (who shower on a regular basis).

If we can get 6 or more entries, then we will have trophies and prizes to award your efforts. I would imagine best General Axis/Allies, best presented army, most imaginative players costume/uniform and whoever beats Bill buy the greatest amount...

I have also considered setting up tables with armies and then having the players move around. However this would only work where the players are happy for their “boys” to be used by there fellow competitors. What do you think?

I would appreciate your (polite) feedback, any and all ideas would be entertained.

Thanks
Sheady

Hi Sheady

Count me in.

I'll pass it on to Kent, Dave, Brad and Stephen here too.

I've been asked to run Bolt Action at TAGCON later in the year, will probably be a 1 day event at this stage themed on the war in the Pacific/Burma but will get more details later.

Hi guys a few more ideas for Southcon.

How about a 1000 point army list for the weekend, of which you can field 750 points each game you play?

I have a few ideas about objectives and them actually having an affect in game. I'll have to play with game balance however.

Do we want to have a third game on Saturday? Say 3.30 to 5.30?

Thanks
Sheady

Hi, I am interested in the Rule Set and am keen to get an army together.
What scale is used by players for most South Island BA events ?

From what I've seen 28 mm seems most popular, although you still find some 25 mm Valiant armies around.
Southcon will be played in 28 mm.

I like the idea of 1000 points, using 750 per game - it allows a certain amount of flexibility in list building (read as: I can bring all the toys I want!).

I'm also more than happy with the extra game on Saturday - the more games the better! Though I guess that could depend on the numbers taking part.

Quick question:

Are you allowing Theater Selectors when creating the army list - or just the Basic Selectors?

See, told you it was quick!

Here is my draft of the rules I intend using, please comment.

Southcon 2014 Tournament rules are as follows:

Depending on entries and players, this will be Axis vs. Allies (if at all possible)

Rules – Bolt Action rules for each game will be as the most recent FAQ/Errata (available on the Warlord Forum).
Tournament Length - Each player will play 5 games lasting no more than 2 hours each – each game completing the turn in progress when time is up.
Forces & Scenarios - The games each player will be allowed to field up to 750 points and the game will be played in the following order:
1. Envelopment (p108 main rule book)
2. Point defence (p112 main rule book)
3. Hold until relieved (p114 main rule book)
4. Top secret (p115 main rule book) – an ‘objective’ will be provided for use in this scenario.
5. The final game will be Maximum Attrition (p110 main rule book)

In either case, your force may be drawn from either: the main rule book, or; the army book – you may not mix and match from both – one or the other only.
Players may field a maximum of 12 units within the points limit specified for each game.
A list of the force you intend to use for your 750 point force must be supplied to the referees prior to starting the first game on the day of the competition.

Any player may request to view the army list of any other player at any time.

Tournament Points - Once the time is up or the game is finished, victory is determined by objectives held.
If the game has not finished and a winner cannot be determined by objectives held, then a winner will be decided as that player who has destroyed the highest points value of opposing forces.
Each player then accrues ‘Tournament Points’ for that game: 3 points for a win; 2 points for a draw; 0 points for a Loss.

Casualty Points - During each game, each player should keep a running total of the total points value of opposing forces they have destroyed. This total may be used to adjudicate the winner of any game where victory cannot be determined by objectives held. This total should be checked and corroborated by the opposing player and referee for that game.
The total points value of opposing forces that a player has destroyed in all games so far played is the players ongoing ‘Casualty Points’ total, which may be used to adjudicate player matching in subsequent games after the first, as well as final tournament placing.

Game Matching - Match-up for the first game will be decided by random draw.

Tournament Placing - At the end of the final game, Tournament position will be determined according to the following criteria:
Descending Tournament Point value;
If 2 or more players have the same TP total, order is determined in descending Casualty Point total for those players;
If 2 or more players have the same TP and Casualty Point total then:
If those players have played each other during the tournament, then the winner of any such match will be placed above the loser when determining tournament position;
If those players have not played each other during the tournament, then the players take joint tournament position.

Looks good to me.

When you say army book - are you allowing Theater Selectors (I know these are banned at some cons)?

Yes, theatre selectors are acceptable - however if anyone goes particularly cheesy, I will take stern measures...!
