Total: 56

WFB: 14
FOW: 9
LotR: 8
Total: 64

2005
Marehau
40k: 40
WFB: 18
FOW: 16
LotR: 16
DBM: 6
Total: 96

2006

LotR: 12
Warmachine: 8
WotR: 6
EPIC: 4
DBA: 12
FOG:12
Total: 116

2010
SAS
40k: 28
WFB: 22
FOW: 10
LotR: 10
Warmachine: 13
Blood Bowl: 11
DBA: 16
FOG:8
Total: 118

2011
SAS (Not Labour weekend)
40k: 28
WFB: 30
FOW: 21
LotR: 9
Warmachine: 14
DBA: 11
FOG:15
Total: 128

2012
SAS
40k :40
WFB: 28
FOW Mid: 7
FOW Late: 6
Warmachine: 18
DBA: 8
FOG:12
Total: 117

2013
SAS
40k : 24
WFB: 24
FOW 14

Numbers tend to go up when it's not Labour Weekend,(which is something we're thinking about) and increased when it went to 2 days from 3. (Which was a controversial decision at the time.)

What were peoples first Conquests?

Cheers

John

I played in 2011, having heard about it in 2010 when i was living in Wellington. I moved to Chch in the year of the quake and made it out to Conquest w/ an army that probably should have been given a terrible painting score (don't remember what it got as one)

I've run the past two 40k events (2012, 2013)

I have either attended, umpired or visted all the conquests since the start. '05 was my first one that I played in. In that time I have played 40k, WOTR and WM/H.

Kendal School rings a bell, I might have gone to that and one of the Mairehau ones too. Then quite a hiatus until the last 2.

If it's not going to be 3 days, it doesn't really need to be on Labour weekend?

I'd vote for not Labour weekend, the wife wasn't too happy losing me for most of a long weekend. Maybe the weekend after so I can spend Labour weekend painting? lol

Thats pretty much Tim and I's current thinking - a lot of people with families or other commitments find it hard to get to the long weekend free to wargame.

This year we were rather locked in to Labour Weekend, due to the high demand for venues in Christchurch at the moment, but next year may well be the weekend after - stay posted. It would also mean we may not clash with other Wargaming events around the country. There were at least 2 maybe more over the weekend.

Don't be too hard on yourself Bloat - you placed in several Conquests.

The first ones WFB was epic - 6 players up on the stage in front of everybody. Having to play your first opponent twice just to fill in the rounds. :D

Moved to Nz 5 years ago, played in the last 3 wfb conquests. Its pretty much been my only gaming in the last 7 years (apart from bruised in the badlands and one game at woolston). Really like it and I have enjoyed each year more. Planning on playing next year too :) built my skaven army especially for the 2011 conquest as my other armies were in my in laws attic in Scotland.

I for one would love to see it moved from labour day.

Makes it easier to get staff to cover so I can make it and also the family thing as well.

I would be happy if it was the week before or after Labour day too

Labour weekend is good for gamers who have to travel from distant parts. Over 1/2 the gamers in the FoG Ancients competition came from out of town, Nelson, Wellington and Oz.

I agree with Brian, Warmachine has a lot of players from Wellington and Auckland that may not have been possible without the long weekend.

Ive been aware of Conquest for a couple of years and been along for a look But never played. Kinda thinking about making it my goal to debut at Conquest 2014.

I normally drive up with a car load every time an event happens and it's a 8 hour trip for me. To be honest the hardest part for tournaments is the fact most of us have families and they would rather do something with us on a long weekend rather than we go away. Either way it's lose lose situation. That was the case for me this year for why I couldn't get to conquest (as well as staff) so with me not going means that another 3 other people from southland didn't come as well.

Also on another note this is all guess work here.

We wouldn't really know how many can/can't come to a game if the weekend was changed until it happens. All I can think of is that if you are going to change it that you gives us as much warning as you can so we (who live out of town) can prepare. That's all we can ask for. For people in Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin it shouldn't pose to much of a problem as CHCH is a main flight destination and cheap flights are easy to pick up. These hardly come around for some of us that don't live in these areas.

Just something else to think about.
