No complaints about the tourney itself, but maybe the Bistro could institute giving out order numbers so I didn't have to wait 1 hour for a burger :\

This was a new problem for us. At the beginning of the day we (the committee) thought that it would be sufficient for people to wear their nametags in order to be served alcohol, as had always been the case in previous years. However this year, because the club had been "stung", they were being more strict. We only found this out as people started buying drinks midway through the first day. We then made ad hoc provisions for committee members (all of whom were either playing or umpiring already) to sign people in as necessary. Sorry if this made you grumpy Mr Troll. Next year, as we know what to expect, we will be able to be better prepared and for sure will be able to mention what is necessary in tournament info/player packs.

Don't know what made it such a problem this year. Usually it isn't. Maybe different bistro staff members have more or less concrete memories of who exactly they were serving? It may not be something we can do anything about as a mere section of the club but we'll give it a go.

I guess the French are more used to 'going' than 'staying' if their historical military performance is anything to judge by.

Hi guys
DaveH has mentioned part of the issue
A little more light though.....
A new control of Alcohol Act is now in place. This means the penalties all around for failing to follow the rules are higher and the impact is potentially much harsher to the club(s) if they get it wrong.
There is active monitoring of sale of alcohol and the clubs are taking the steps they legally need to do.
Fines are in place for the person purchasing ( if underage) Fines if you give alcohol to underage person without the Express permission of their parent(s) not just a general statement but a firm statement of permission Fines for the person who sold the alcohol Fines for the employer of the person who sold the alcohol, as well as suspension and opposition to the licence on renewal, potentially increased licence fees as a result of failure
and the list goes on!!
So just be aware that you need to have your membership cards with you and be prepared to sign in your guests ( for whom you will be responsible)

So is it possible at the beginning of the event to sign everyone who isn't a member in as they collect their name badges? Or does it need to be done on an individual basis at the bar in front of staff?
