BOLT ACTION NATCON 2017

PLAYERS PACK
Tournament Entry and Information
For Bolt Action Tournament information contact Tony at
Lehr130dak@gmail.com
Bolt Action (BA) at NATCON 2017 will be a 3 day tournament over Easter weekend of the 14th to 16th April 2017 at the Woolston Club Christchurch. The event format will be a 1000 point tournament, 8 games for the 3 days. Using Bolt Action rules Vol 2.

What to Bring
1. A good attitude
2. BA Order dice and templates are mandatory (2 sets, in different colours) as are a tape measure and a bucket of D6’s.
3. An Army, all miniatures must have a basic paint job. (3 colours minimum on each model)
4. A rule book (BA), Army book and any errata or FAQ you think is relevant.
5. Three objectives measuring approximately 40mm x 60mm.

Tournament Rules
Players must use a 1,000 points force, consisting of one, two or three reinforced platoons, but only up to 14 order dice can be used. These forces must be selected using one of the army list sections of the Armies of German Vol 2, United States, Great Britain, Soviet Union, Imperial Japan, France and Allies or Italy and the Axis.
A copy off your army list is to be made available for your opponent to view. Tank War will NOT be used at this tournament.
47 Royal Marine Commando units/army cannot be used.
No optional rules (including Warplanes) can be used.
No force can contain more than 1 artillery or air observer.
Japanese Banzai Charge special rule does not count as a double-one roll for the purposes of the Incredible Courage! Rule.
Additional Strafbattalion men are automatically rated as shirkers and do not get -3 points per model as stated on p.79 of Ostfront.
All units and platoons in your army must be from the same theater of operations, (European, North Africa, Eastern Front, Italian Front, Far East and Pacific Theater.)
Units from the additional units PDF can be used.
Latest Errata and FAQ to be used.
Note that guns need to be towed to move on to the table, they cannot be wheeled on.
Player will also be asked to record requisition cost points of enemy figures and units they destroy during their games. These destroyed enemies points (let’s call them ‘Casualty points’) are always added together in a running total and are used as a tiebreaker to separate players that are on the same level of tournament points.
Tough fighters can only be used by troops who get it in the army books and/or the easy army computer program.
Line of sight – You can look through one edge of a piece of scenery or through a linear feature but not two pieces of scenery.
Flamethrower number of shots 1, the number of hits is D6 (or D6+1 in the case of vehicle-mounted flamethrower). Roll for damage in the usual manner. Exceptional damage, in this tournament will be the same for all troops, including snipers, eg only 1 figure is removed from the unit or support weapons team. In the case of a support weapons team the gunner can be replaced until the team are all casualties.
A US Marine Late War squad costs 91 points rather than 81 points as stated on p.26 of the United States Army book.
Special characters may not be used.

Game Time
The game lasts for two hours, after two hours of game play, the players must finish the current turn and then the game ends automatically.

Army List
List will need to be made using Easy Army tool found at - http://boltaction.easyarmy.com
This will then need to be exported as a pdf file and emailed to the Bolt Action umpire before
Friday 17th March 2017. Email to – lehr130dakgmail.com

Match ups
The match-ups of games 1, 2 and 3 will be random and made to ensure that players do not play others from their own club or city if possible. In the following games players will be matched using tournament points (TP). Whilst there may be too many entrants to allow a “round robin” all care will be made to ensure that the final places accurately indicate the ability of the players and the results achieved over the weekend.

In addition to this, there will be a Natcon dinner on the saturday night after all gaming is done.
Its $37 for buffet style meal served at the venue. (And yes the food here is good)
PLease pay via the same method as your gaming entry, and include your name. Either a seperate or all together works fine.

Two things:

1. Can you explain this requirement?
"All units and platoons in your army must be from the same theater of operations, (European, North Africa, Eastern Front, Italian Front, Far East and Pacific Theater.) "

2. How does the changed exceptional damage rule affects LMGs inside a squad?
As far as I understand if the LMG is chosen as the victim of exceptional damage, instead the loader is removed and the LMG suffers the -1 for being operated by only one team member?

1/ You can not have a unit from European Front in the same platoon as a unit from say Pacific theater eg all units from the same book.

2/ Read exceptional damage in the players pack, it says "in the case of support weapons........." not LMG in a unit. If the LMG is chosen as the victim of exceptional damage ( in a Infantry Unit ) the LMG is removed and the loader becomes a infantry man with a rifle.

Hope this helps

I've newly arrived to the Bolt Action game system and was looking at the option of playing that at NatCon only to find the Japanese army I have been painting over the last few months has had one of its key rules revoked for this tournament.

Most discouraging.

From the player's pack I'm unclear on what happens instead of being automatically passed as if a double one. Please advise?

Could you also please advise how many entries you have and how many Japanese in that?

Russell

Hi Tony

Is the amendment that when an Banzai charge order is given, it is automatically passed but only one pin marker is removed?

I read it that the unit automatically passes the test, but not with Incredicle Courage - They can always charge, but don't get the bonus of removing an additional D6 pinmarkers.

It is basically replacing the Banzai Charge with the British Up and At 'Em - Rule.

In this tournament the rules "Banzai Charge" and "Incredible Courage" are separate rules, if you are lucky to roll snake eyes in a banzai charge you get to use incredible courage as well.

You sure Tony?

My understanding is you don't roll for a Banzai Charge order. It is instead automatically passed so no chance to roll Snake Eyes and therefore getting Incredible Courage if you make the change you have written.

So goes from always getting Incredible Courage to never getting.

What's prompted the change? Are Japanese lists rampaging around the South Island and proving over powered in practice (I've played one game and was well beaten so I don't know - chose the army because I have a son working in Japan and there weren't many in Wellington)?

I understand the Banzai Charge the same way as Russell:
You don't roll, it just counts as passed with a double-one.

So is it now that they have to roll but still always count as having passed?
(Seriously, just replace it with Up and At 'Em.)

By the way:
You should add that Jeeps & GAZ Jeeps lose their tow-ability when they buy a MG. Rule as written still allows to buy one (GAZ) Jeep with MG per infantry unit (as it only loses transport, but not tow).

This players pack is about the same a Cancon 2017 in Australia this week end.

Hi Tony. Were you going to amend the NatCon brief to say Japanese Banzai and Up And At Them (British rule) will be played as per the latest errata?
