The ADLG competition will be run over 3 days, with 3 games each day.

So the cost for playing in the tournament will be $60, payable to R Hodgson, Kiwibank, 38-9005-0753563-01. Code is NatconADLG and the reference is your name. There will be a buffet meal at the venue on the Saturday night at a cost of $37 per person, you can either pay that with your registration or separately.

The umpire is Andre Evers, email is awesum10@yahoo.com.au or text to 021 257 6317 (I work shiftwork so please text before ringing).

Each game will be 2 hours plus time to complete the current players phase.

Armies are up to 200 points, any army from the rule book, only troops from a single time period and geographical area are allowed. Army list to be supplied to the umpire by the 3rd of April at the latest to give me time to check them and sort out any difficulties.

Rules will be as per the rule book, plus the official FAQ, as interpreted by the umpire following pleasant discussions and deliberations should there be any disagreements over the rules. No optional rules will be used.

The first 3 games will be drawn so no one plays anyone they have ever played ADLG against, if at all possible. The following 6 games will be drawn using the Swiss Chess system. No two people can play each other twice in the tournament, unless we have fewer than 10 players.

The results will be as per the International ranking system, and results will be sent in to the ADLG boffins.

Andre

Thanks for putting your name to this Andre, appreciated yet again. Do I have enough time to paint / rebase another army in time.. well done one already so still playtesting before sending in a list. Even had the old Aztecs out last week for a kicking.

Will let you all know what day I am down re picking up Ian etc

Cheers
Josh

I have a feeling I may be quite busy umpiring as most players don't have a huge amount of experience with ADLG. Also one of the other players may not be able to play all 9 games.
I'm looking forward to see how some of the armies go, ADLG has a reputation already for not having any killer armies and several players have picked armies they like rather than armies they think are effective (or so they claim).

Do you have access to enough terrain for this?

I think it's going to be a real challenge to get lots of decisive results within 2 hours especially with many of us still learning the rules. From memory I think my fastest game has been one army breaking within about 90 minutes but that's been an outlyer and based on an army mismatch and extreme die results. Generally I think my games have been around 2.5 hours including set-up with one army always breaking at that point.

It's easy to burn 20 minutes fluffing around with terrain and set-up. In reality, the terrain/set-up rules are all pretty simple so players should be able to move through this pretty quickly. They key is to no what you are going to do/what terrain you want against your opponent before you arrive at the table.

But I think the 2 hours is a good discipline to force players to make decisive decisions and complete moves quickly. There's really no reason to hum and hah over what you're going to do. Either you've got the pips or you haven't. And there's really only a few factors to add/subtract from the shooting/melee dice.

I've also found that once the two sides are locked in combat there's not that much more movement so you move through the combat turns very quickly. In other words, you get threw lots of turns.

Of course slow players will always frustrate the hell out of tournament tigers!

You might very well think that Brian, but I couldn't possibly comment.

Let's see how far we get in 2 hours during our practice game on Thursday night.
