Hi guys - the Cavs are looking at what comps will be run this year, with a view to start making actual decisions once Warclouds is done and dusted. They expect there will be a WOTR one, and will provide support for this. I know we already have one thread on the topic, and I am not trying to hijack that :) It is just that I would like to be armed with some sort of firm information when I have to take part in the brief meeting about it!

So firstly, since we struggled a bit for attendance last year:

1. Can people indicate/confirm they are potential players for this kind of thing (either one day, at Tempest and/or possibly stand alone). How keen are people for an event?

2. If you were interested in an event 'in general', what would make an event less desirable (eg EQC turn up that morning, WOTR is competing with another comp, you may not have the figs, something else) so we could try to avoid that + get something happening.

There was really good response to AJ's thread so if AJ would even like to RUN an event at Tempest (or another, specific, time) then that is much better for all concerned and I can report that to our little meeting. Alternatively, I can make it happen and I would love to if people were keen (and I can't scam AJ into doing it. ) To give people a firmer idea of what might be involved: The poll in the other thread indicated that 1000pt and 1 day had a good majority. I think that makes for a good one day event - three games will comfortably fit and so you can have some combination of the deployments and victory conditions from the book.

The main thing though is to get players and visibility- The Hobbit is out this year so consider this the long buildup to "The Battle of the Five Armies" ;)

Cheers

EQC visit, a really large aftershock or a family emergency are the only things that would stop me turning up.

I should have at least 2 other armies that people could use if they wanted to play but don't have a WoTR army.

I would also suggest making unpainted armies allowed and as low an entry fee as possible.

I would most definately be keen for a one day event. I'd make painting my Rohan force a goal for it. I don't have my 40k army anywhere near ready so if it took place on the weekend of another event that wouldn't bother me.

I would be keen, so long as it doesn't clash with another event or work.

Hi James, we could definitely consider removing clashes if that helps people. I also think the points about 1. Yes were are a gaming community and will happily loan units/armies and 2. Yes we don't mind WIP armies (it can take a while to paint a whole WOTR force or be daunting to even start!) are worth reiterating so thanks to above posters for the reminder.

Good to see the response so far, five of us already. I know of another 1-2 that *might* play.

If we were to play at a non-Tempest (since I presume you will want to play or umpire 40k in that, James?) date, when in the year seems appealing? I always feel 'the sooner the better' but people might like a painting window? I really MUST get on to my Orcs.

Cheers

I would prefer a non-Tempest tournament, as it will allow the people who might go for a different system play WOTR.

A date that isn't too far away, but is also far enough away we can paint our armies. Something like 4-6 weeks away sounds about right.

Hi Warpmaster - sorry I don't know all the names/faces of forum people so you may know more than me? - I can only speak for what was discussed when we all got together to talk it over. Looks like not too much of an issue either way, in this case.

Cheers

I could be totally wrong to dude ,but i was told last year that Tempest was getting canned and anew event might be in the works ,run by Cavs itself or by Comics.

Cool, cool, whomever you are. So not that relevant to our planning then.

Well only if the new event clashes with your dates

All looks good - thanks for the quick responses guys.

James, I will try for soonish but my painting Window includes 56-63 more Orcs to assemble, paint and base, so may just allow a little leeway there

I swear not to EVER use Wings of Terror again... unless my opponent uses it on me first.

I had a chat to Martin @ Warclouds about the event and he suggested a larger points total - to allow for more points spent on Allies. He proposed 1500pts (375pts of allies) but I would be more keen on some sort of compromise points total eg 1200 (300pts of allies) or 1250. However, what do you guys think? 1500pts might allow people to bring all of their favourite stuff and I don't see it changing the balance overall so it is really just a question of playtime.

Cheers
