Rex - Late Achaemenid Persian
Stephen - Thematic Byzantine
Murray - Later Samurai
Ian - Normans in Sicily
Paul - Scots Isles and Highlanders
Kerry - Jurchen-Chin
Mark O - Tamil
Aaron - Ottoman Empire
Tim - Classical Indian
Andre - Huns
Mark H - Franks
Shaun - Yuan Chinese
Brent - Berber
Bryan - Dacian
Brian - Classical Indian
Rodney - Seleucid
Taylor - Ptolemaic
Andrew - Sumer and Akkad
Richard - Nikephorian Byzantine

A good range of armies, with only one double up. Not many knights or pike around either.

Without giving anything away, here are some observations on army composition.

I am definitely seeing a trend away from high command value. In some armies that makes sense, but I feel a lot of the armies are going to struggle to exploit their capital troops once they get into battle.

A lot of armies are set up with monotype commands, consisting of just one troop type. That's fine if they are shooty cav which can perform 2 roles, but otherwise you need to be really careful with these commands. If you don't deploy them right they risk getting caught by a predator. This is especially true for medium or LMI types.

I also saw a lot of commands with no skirmishers. People, rule number 1 is putting 1-2 lights in every command. If you end up defending that command is going to be on the backfoot.

So looks like
3 x Impact/bow cav (Thematic, Yuan, Jurchen)
2 x shooty cav (Ottoman, Huns)
3 x Elephants (Tamil, Classical Indian x2)
3 x Hairy nutters (Scots, Dacian, Franks)
2 x classics (Late Achaemenid, Ptolemaic)
1 x knight / moog (Normans)
1 x cav/spear (Berber)
1 x Honourable gentlemen (Later Samurai)

I was thinking of bringing the Earlier samurai, on the basis that lots of elite bow may go well against lots of cavalry. Chickened out as thought they wouldn't get enough shots off and then fail to survive the charge - maybe should have, to see how they would have gone.

As always some of the armies you are happy to face, some are okay to face, and some you have to work bloody hard to stand a chance against. There is a certain amount of luck in which armies you actually fight.
I don't want to face the 3 elephant armies, mostly because they are christchurch players, and elephants are the most amazing creatures and I don't want to hurt them.
I am surprised at the lack of pikes, cataphracts, legions and heavy knights. Josh and Richard will be missed.
Let the games begin!!!

Why is it that the opponents army list always seems stronger than yours? The Dacians I am using will be fun, but OMG some of those armies look scary! Bryan

Because they are bloody scary, and they are controlled by very intelligent men with a great desire to outmanouver you and prove you inadequate.

Which army has the most Cheese is the question, not which is the most scary Bryan

Andrew Taylor (with list 1 Sumer and Akkad) will be added to the R&R to give us an even number.
