Hi all

Many thanks to Paul Graham for organising the DBMM competition at the Wellington Warlords' annual Cal to Arms. About 110 people took part in the various competitions and, in addition, there were several display games, including a huge, 28mm re-fight of the Napoleonic battle of Wagram.

DBMM was, as typical in New Zealand, 25mm. For the first game players set up terrain as usual. Then, the terrain was left on the table and players moved around the tables square dance fashion. Paul was the caller as we would promenade to find our new "partners".

All up 16 people played, though some like me could only play some games. I was not available Sunday.

Thank you to my two opponents, Jim and Steve, and to everyone else there.

Paul's message is below.

Best regards

Vince

Thank you everyone who participated in this year's DBMM competition at Call to Arms. It's a big event in the calendar both for us Ancients players, and for the Wellington Warlords club.

The results are in, dice were the winners on the day but the players also scored well. There were medals and/or prize vouchers from the Kapiti Pharmacy and Model Shop -

and http://scottswargaming.blogspot.co.nz/2016/05/the-hobby-corner-new-supplier-in-town.html

- for:

Best Terrain
shared by Richard Foster and Mark Pickup who started on Table 3

Best Army
awarded to John van den Hoeven with his very nice new Bastarnae force

Best Opponent
taken out in a very gentlemanly fashion by Graham Starkey, Mr Nice Guy 2017

and Overall Winner and (... drum roll) the new Call to Arms Champion for 2017
Allen Yaxley.

The final scores were:1st 85 pts Allen Yaxley (Konstantinian Byzantine) ;
2nd 79 pts Richard Foster (Early Burgundian) ;

9th 40 pts Jim Morton (Graeco-Bactrian) ;

After I forwarded the results of Call to Arms, the stipendiary stewards were called and the appeal has been upheld. Paul's updated message is below.

Sadly, the hapless umpire (me) stuffed up the list of results.

The Real Final list of results from the 2017 Call to Arms DBMM competition should read:

1st 85 pts Allen Yaxley (Konstantinian Byzantine) ;
2nd 79 pts Richard Foster (Early Burgundian) ;
3rd 64 pts Andrew Brazendale (Late Imperial Roman) ;
4th 63 pts Mark Pickup (Islamic Berber) ;
5th 56 pts Andrew Bennetts (Anglo-Norman) ;
6th 53 pts Steve Hodgson (Middle Imperial Roman) [3 games] ;
7th 48 pts Gary Lewis (Wars of the Roses English) [2 games] ;
8th 45 pts John van den Hoeven (Bastarnae) ;
9th 42 pts Peter Noble (Early Sumerian) [2 games] ;
10th 40 pts Jim Morton (Graeco-Bactrian) .

Also played with enthusiasm but less success (in alphabetical order):

Nick Buckby (Patrician Roman) [3 games] ;
Vince Cholewa (Maurikian Byzantine) [2 games] ;
Alastair Duncan (Early Imperial Roman; Classical Indian) [4 games];
Richard Fields (Classical Indian) [2 games] ;
Paul Graham (Polybian Roman) [3 games] ;
Richard Mason (Saitic Egyptian) [3 games] ;
Brent Senior-Partridge (Ming Chinese) [2 games] ;
Graham Starkey (Seleucid) [4 games].

I think the auditors will be satisfied now. Thanks to my eagle-eyed fellow players.

Cheers,
Paul
