In case you had missed it, East Auckland Elites will be running the Auckland Wargaming Open again in 2013! 2012 was a great success and we are hoping to grow significantly from last time. The main attraction will again be 40k using the NOVA style scoring system, and we are trying to finalise Fantasy Doubles as was run last year (anyone happy to help out with running Fantasy give me a yell). We also have room to expand to allow for some small skirmish sized systems/demo tables if anyone is interested. Prize support should be amazing again this time around as well, we gave away over $800 in prizes last time and hope to push that even higher this year.

Date:
20th & 21th of April 2013

Venue: Remuera Commerce Club
27-33 Ohinerau Street, Remuera, Auckland

TO: Robert Power - contact thepower_guy@hotmail.com

40K:
Points: 2000pts (single FOC). No comp. Forgeworld units will be allowed (conditions apply, contact me or see the players pack for more details)

Format: 6 rounds - 3 per day (note that the number of rounds may be adjusted depending on numbers). Aiming for 48 players, which is double what we got last time (although 64 would be ideal and quite achievable given the numbers Equinox has managed).

Painting: Armies must be painted to a tabletop standard to win any awards or prizes (including spot prizes). This means three colours and fully based. We will be using a similar system to OTT, any models which are not fully painted are removed at the end of the game as casualties, which allows for the odd unpainted model for people who have put the effort in (if you run out of time to finish 1-2 guys or leave a model at home etc etc) but punishes people who don't.

Scoring: This tournament will be using the so called NOVA format (after the tournament in the US that first used it). Essentially its two competitions in parallel, the main tournament winner is the one player who goes undefeated (the scenarios used ensure its only one) and the Renaissance Man competition which has equal weighting on wins, painting and sports (that is 33% in each, a true all rounder). Scenarios are structured so that draws are not possible, every scenario has 4+ levels of objectives which are all in play at once so if you tie on the primary you move to the next one down to determine the winner. From a players perspective the main difference is that the tournament does not use Swiss Pairing, but uses high/low within each win/loss bracket (which over 5-6 rounds ensures that the top two players play each other in the final round to determine the tournament champion).

Prizes and trophies for 1st/2nd/3rd Tournament Championship (purely win/loss) and 1st/2nd/3rd Renaissance Man (33% each in competitive score, painting and sports) + Painting and Sportsmanship prizes.

Registration for this event is open. Note that the early/late entry fee is determined by when you pay NOT when you register.
Early Registration (closes 22th Feb): $40
Late Registration (closes 5st April): $50
Lists will be due 12th April.

The Players pack and missions are available.

Fantasy Doubles
Details tbc.

The venue is just off the motorway, Bar on site (open till 10-11 on Saturday) and plenty of places for food nearby (we will also be running a BBQ for lunches at the venue on both Saturday and Sunday), as well as plenty of hotels/motels if you need a place to stay.

There will also be a casual dinner/get together on the Saturday evening at the venue (the Commerce Club does dinner catering ~$10-20 meals from memory). This is optional so won't be included in entry costs, but is certainly worth coming along to.

Please get in contact with me to register or if you have any queries (including things not directly related to the tournament like accommodation for those coming in from outside of Auckland).

Cheers,
Robert
