So our discussion on points value lead to some thought about CavCon, and people's preference for 1750+ and here's what i'm thinking
-Tiles and teams of 3 again - 2 worlds w/ one player "dedicated" to battles on that world - 3rd player is the reinforcements; moves from world to world and back every other mission - so, every 2nd mission is a doubles game
Example:
Mission 1: World A, player 1 and player 3 team up (1k each) while on World B, player 2 has an 1850 singles game
Mission 2: World A, player 1 has an 1850 single game while on World B, players 2 and 3 team up (1k each)
Mission 3: World A, player 1 and player 3 team up (1k each) while on World B, player 2 has an 1850 singles game
Mission 4: World A, player 1 has an 1850 single game while on World B, players 2 and 3 team up (1k each)
Mission 5: something weird involving corridors
You'd get more of a team feel i think w/out being a "traditional" doubles event

Looks interesting. Not sure about corridors (I presume you mean Zone Mortalis again).

That looks like it'd work. The only problem is that Player 3 loses out on an 1850 point game.
To address that, they could possibly play an 1850 point "normal" game while the Zone Mortalis is on in Mission 5. The only issue would be having enough Mortalis tables to keep the other two players amused.
How many tables can you make out of the corridors again?

good thought; maybe if players 1 & 2 teamed up to battle in the corridors (yes, that's Zone Mortalis) then all the player 3s can match up in single player games at the same time.
i'm looking fwd to the list building angst that sees 3 people try to make 2 doubles lists where one list has to be the same (player 3 only gets one 1k list, while the other 2 each have to make a complimentary list for the bits where they're teamed up)

I see no huge problem with being the third player only playing team games, it could be a way for newer peeps with small collections (or borrowing someone elses) to get into tournaments?

I've been considering "encouraging" that 3rd player to have a rapid response type list - so maybe a min number of DSing/outflanking units, no fortifications, etc, but giving them a bonus (re-roll reserves, or only d6 scatter or re-roll outflank board edge) to make them "theme"-y

Would that mean that everyone has to run Mono armies with no allies?

no, not at all. some allied armies are far Theme-ier than some single codex armies. It'll be more about what sort of units make up that 3rd army, and what sort of rules to give them so that they're encouraged to use certain sorts of units without breaking things too badly.

I like the look of it. It's a good mix of differnt types of games and should make for a fun weekend with plenty a variation to keep everyone happy.
